Trudi Roth

A painter of botanicals, still life, landscapes and dreams. My media are watercolor, pencil, charcoal, pastel and oil. I have also been enjoying success with my photographs. Nature is one of my models but memory, mystery and humor play a large role in my work.

Artist's Statement top ↑

I'm an artist
A sculptress
A shaper of things
A painter
A liar
An angel with wings.

I'm a joyfully young thing
But you may behold
an old lady - grotesque
Both timid and bold.

I'm multiple sided
Quite human you see
And while fooling you all
I also fool me.

It can take a long time to realize a talent.

My working life was spent in New York City where I designed and created clothing and made interior fashions working with several decorators. About twelve years ago my husband and I retired to Columbia County. Inspired by its beauty, I soon found myself doing photography, drawing and painting watercolors. Wanting to delve deeper into the arts I enrolled at the University of Albany's Empire State College. I recieved a B.S. degree in Art and Art Studies. My diploma arrived on my 70th birthday!

I am a largely self taught artist, making realistic and nonobjective pastels, watercolors and oils. My work has been shown at the Old Chatham Country Store Gallery, North Pointe Gallery, Columbia Greene College's Blue Hills Gallery, at the Pocketbook Factory in Hudson and during Columbia Berkshire Craft Guild Studio Tours.

Some of my art has found it's way into private collections.
